Michael Vick's Dogs
Aug. 23rd, 2007 12:45 pmI've always been an animal lover. It's something that I grew up with, from my grandmother and her sister taking in every stray in a 5 mile radius, to attempting to rescue baby birds (some successful, some not), to wandering around with a petition against leg-hold traps when I was about 10. I think I would have been a veterinarian if I didn't have this rotten needle phobia, and my life would have unfolded in a much different way.
In any case, I read an article today about the dogs that Michael Vick trained to kill each other, and how they are going to be "exterminated." While at least it will be a much more humane death than the one Vick had planned for them, I can't help but be disgusted. This man intervened in their lives to train them to this destructive practice, yet he has no responsibility to them now? He likely won't even have to pay the $15.00 or whatever cost per shot it will take to humanely put them to sleep.
These dogs did nothing wrong, yet their lives are being cut short likely because nobody has the resources to "untrain" them of this behavior (if it's even possible). I can't help but think that if our friend Michael Vick was made at least financially responsible for the rehabilitation of these dogs, perhaps others would think twice about teaching them such abhorrent behavior. If he was responsible for the daily care and training of teach of those dogs, for the rest of their lives, it would be a more fitting outcome than simply disposing of living creatures.
It truly pisses me off that the victims here get the short end of the stick.

Ok... so WTF?
Aug. 23rd, 2007 03:14 pmSo here we are, occupying a Muslim country, and playing games about blowing away the 'Antichrist'? Why would anyone think that it's an ok thing to send religious games to troops? Of course, this was going to be CHRISTIAN religious games, and you can be certain those of other faiths blowing away unbelievers would not even have been considered. I have to wonder whether these games would have just been silently shipped over if the evil left wing media hadn't reported on the issue.

ABC News reported "Plans by a Christian group to send an evangelical video game to U.S. troops in Iraq were abruptly halted yesterday by the Department of Defense after ABC News inquired about the program." (H/T Religion Clause) From RC:
The Department of Defense has stopped plans by a Christian evangelical group to send soldiers in Iraq a video game in which Christian believers fight the Antichrist in the Battle of Armageddon.
