Island Living
Oct. 8th, 2007 11:23 amPretty much everyone knows who you are on Bonaire, if you visit the island with any frequency. One of the results of this intimacy is that everyone knows each other's business, whether it be on island or off, and everyone hears each others' rumors. And so it was when we noticed that the dive staff had changed again at this resort (I say "resort" with a bit of irony...dive resorts are not real "resorts" in that sense. They're pretty basic but functional but they charge like the Ritz :-)). Within a very short time and just a few emails, we found out what the story was, who left where, why, how, and how much money they made. Interesting little community here.
We also found some friends we've seen from stays past. That was an added bonus, because we didn't know they would be here. They went off on the 11:15 boat, while we decided to forego it and wait for the rain/lightning/etc. to stop.
While at breakfast, we heard that several of the rooms below us had flooded due to the intensity of the storm. That was pretty surprising to us, but there it was. I think I'll spend the rest of the morning relaxing and double/triple checking my camera gear, and maybe finding someone with spare Light and Motion equipment they might rent so I can get hold of a monitor back that works. Or maybe a housing for the new HD camera. That'd be great if I could rent one of those.... Woo hoo.
Wish me luck. *blub blub*
